  • Oversaw ongoing election administration work in seven states in cooperation with the Democracy Alliance and Common Cause (CO, FL, MI, NM, OH, PA, WI) – this work was key to ensuring fair election practices during 2008.

  • Ran the largest pollworker recruitment program in the nation with an eye toward election protection in 2008; recruited over 12,000 volunteers.

  • Created demographic-based marketing strategies to expand Working Assets’ mobile business.

  • Evaluated grant applications, performed due diligence, and made recommendations to CREDO's President and Board to aid in the company's funding work. (CREDO/Working Assets has donated over $60 million to progressive non-profit organizations.)

  • Traveled around the nation to help grow and improve the work of state retiree organizations.

  • Worked with coalition partners including labor unions, religious organizations, etc.

  • Chartered and built new organizations in states without a retiree activism structure.

  • Made public appearances (rallies, radio, etc.) to promote the work of the Alliance.

Ohio AFL-CIO Take Back Ohio Campaign, Columbus, OH
Director, Vote by Mail Initiative

July-November, 2006

  • Designed/ran first-time statewide Vote by Mail program; brought in over 12,000 voters.

  • Hired and supervised a staff of twenty employees, union releases, and volunteers.

  • Oversaw all aspects of the field plan including direct mail and phones.

  • Worked with Boards of Elections in Ohio’s 88 counties to ensure the effectiveness of the program.

  • Presented the program at the AFL-CIO Executive Council Meeting in Chicago; was subsequently asked to train staff in other states to run Vote by Mail programs using my field plan as a model.

  • Played significant role in the broader Take Back Ohio campaign, including authoring all Get Out the Vote phone scripts and directing GOTV for Columbus.
